PEACE IS A PERSON

THE LIGHT 5

16th October 2026

Alex Buabeng-Korsah

TOPIC: PEACE IS A PERSON

THEME SCRIPTURE: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." —Matthew 14:27

PREPARATORY QUESTION
What are you waiting to calm down before you rejoice in God?

The disciples were far from land, battered by waves, and exhausted after hours of rowing against the wind. Then Jesus came to them, walking on the very thing that terrified them.

Their first response was fear. They thought He was a ghost. Yet He didn't wait for the sea to settle before He spoke. He spoke into the storm: "Take courage! It is I."

Notice what He offered. Not an explanation for the wind. Not a promise that the waves would stop on cue. He gave them Himself. "It is I" was the entire answer.

That changes how we read our own storms:

- Courage is anchored in who is present, not in what is calm. The disciples had no reason to feel brave until they knew who was with them.
- Jesus often arrives in the hardest hour. He came in the fourth watch, near dawn, when the night had been longest.
- The storm ended only after He stepped into the boat. Peace followed His presence, not the other way around.

Many of us treat peace as a prerequisite: once the finances stabilize, once the diagnosis improves, once the relationship heals, then we will trust Him. But the disciples heard "Take courage" while the wind was still blowing.

You may be rowing hard tonight, convinced He is far away. He sees you from the mountain, and He is already on His way across the water. The same voice that spoke to them speaks to you: *It is I.*

Peace is not the absence of storms. It is the presence of Christ in the middle of them.

Key Takeaway
Courage doesn't wait for calm conditions. It rests on the certainty that Jesus is with you in the storm.

Beloved, today, when anxiety rises, stop and say aloud, "He is here with me; I can't be afraid," and let those words, not your circumstances, set your response.

Remain blessed

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD
1. What storm are you rowing against right now, and where have you assumed Jesus is absent?
2. What would change if you believed peace came from His presence rather than your circumstances?
3. Who around you needs to hear "Take courage" this week?

PRAYER
Father, the wind is loud and I am tired. Speak over me what You spoke to them: it is You, and I need not fear. Come into my boat. Quiet my heart before You quiet my circumstances, and teach me to trust You in the middle of the storm. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
