TOPIC: THE DISTRACTION BEFORE THE SINK
THEME SCRIPTURE: "But when he saw the wind, he was afraid." (Matthew 14:30, NIV)
PREPARATORY QUESTION
What have you been watching more closely than Jesus this week?
Peter was still on the water when fear arrived. He had not yet sunk. Nothing about the waves had changed. The wind was already blowing when he stepped out.
Scripture says he "saw the wind." That is the turning point. Fear did not begin with the water rising. It began with where Peter chose to look.
This is how most doubt starts. It rarely begins with a dramatic collapse. It begins with a small shift of attention.
- Distraction comes before doubt. Peter looked away first, then feared, then sank.
- The threat was not new. He knew the wind was there. He only gave it his gaze.
- Walking on water was never about Peter's balance. It was about Jesus' word. Peter's strength was borrowed from the start.
Think about what pulls your eyes. A bank balance. A medical report. A critical voice. A mistake you keep replaying. None of these are imaginary. Peter's wind was real too. But facing a problem is different from fixating on it.
You can acknowledge the wind and still keep your eyes on Christ. Peter's mistake was not noticing the storm. It was letting the storm become the main thing he saw.
Faith is not blindness to difficulty. It is a deliberate choice about what gets the most attention.
Guard your gaze early. Catch the drift before the sinking begins.
Key Takeaway
Doubt usually starts as a shift of attention. Catch it early by returning your eyes to Jesus.
Precious one, each time today you notice yourself replaying a worry, pause and name one thing Jesus has already done for you. Then go back to your work.
God bless you more.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD
1. What is the "wind" you have been watching most closely lately?
2. When do you usually notice your attention drifting from Jesus?
3. What simple habit could pull your eyes back to Him early in the day?
PRAYER
Father, I admit my eyes wander. I look at the wind and forget Your word. Train my attention. Help me notice the drift early and turn back to Jesus. You are steady when I am not. Keep my gaze on the Lord Jesus alone today. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
