TOPIC: FAITH MOVES ON HIS WORD
THEME SCRIPTURE: "Come,' he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus." (Matthew 14:29, NIV)
PREPARATORY QUESTION
What has Jesus already told you to do that you are still debating?
Peter did not step out because the conditions improved. The wind was still blowing. The water was still deep. He stepped out because Jesus said one word: "Come."
That is the pattern of real faith. It does not wait for certainty about the outcome. It waits for a word from Christ, then moves.
Notice what Peter did right. He asked first: "Lord, if it's you, tell me to come to you" (Matthew 14:28). He did not act on impulse. He sought the command, then obeyed it.
Notice also what the other eleven did. They stayed in the boat. The boat was safe, and nothing in Scripture condemns them. But only one man walked on water.
- Obedience opens experiences that caution cannot. Peter learned something about Jesus that the others only watched.
- The command carries the power. Peter did not generate the ability to walk. Jesus' word held him up.
- Even the sinking taught him. He learned Jesus' hand is near when faith feels thin.
Most of us wait to feel ready. We want more clarity, more resources, or calmer weather. But readiness rarely comes first. Obedience does.
If Jesus has spoken to you through His Word, through conscience, or through wise counsel, do not stall in the boat. Take the first step. Keep your eyes on Him as you go.
Key Takeaway
Faith acts on Jesus' word, not on perfect conditions. He supplies the strength for what He commands.
Beloved, identify one step Jesus has asked of you. Take it today, even if it is small.
Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD
1. What "boat" are you holding onto for safety?
2. What has Jesus clearly told you that you have not yet done?
3. Who can support you as you take this step?
PRAYER
Father, I want to move when You speak. Show me what You are asking, and give me courage to obey. Hold me up where I cannot hold myself. Keep my eyes on You as I step out. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
